Some may reject the fact that science needs art to expand and to learn more. They may think that arts has no correlation with science. Even Lehrer says that, Cubism seems to have nothing in common with modern physics.” and how “Paintings can be profound, but they are always pretend” I would also agree that certain art styles have nothing to do with the periodic table if you just touch the surface of it. (Lehrer). Yes, it may be true that there’s no exact crossover between science and arts, but it’s there concepts that are taken away from arts that we translate to science. When we refer to arts, it’s not just referring to paintings, but rather the whole genre of art. This includes poetry, wring, and all the skills used to make the human brain think. One thing that comes out of art are metaphors. These metaphors, such as, “The strings of the universe might be like a garden hose, but they are not a garden hose” (Lehrer). These metaphors can advance the scientific discover because it can make scientists stretch out their thought process. Lehrer writes, “Abstract art lets us comprehend, at least a little bit, the incomprehensible.” Art’s skills make us think the impossible, and every so often, these impossible thoughts can turn into a reality. Ben Franklin thought the impossible, but he was able to change the impossible, possible.

  • Careful with surface errors, but in general you do an excellent job articulating your view on the best interpretation of “art.”
