Learning Outcomes 5 and 6

In English this year, our class utilized the book, “A Little Seagull.” This book included a lot of insight on how to cite sources and properly MLA format essays. However, why is MLA format important. If quotes aren’t cited, then credit isn’t given properly to the writer’s you referenced. It’s essentially stealing someone else’s work and this is considered plagiarism. Let’s take a look at my Metaphor’s Essay. As you can see, I have a Works Cited page, in text citations, and proper format throughout the essay. All of this keeps the essay formal, makes it well-organized, and keeps the reader entertained because they know they are reading a meaningful essay. Just think about it, how many times have you gone onto a website, and could tell it wasn’t credible. Reading this essay, you know for a fact it’s credible because everything is cited properly. It’s also worth noting why in-text citations are important as well. Let’s think about it this way; if a quote in an essay pops up out of no where with no context of where it’s from, why should the reader believe it. The correct answer is that they shouldn’t. A quote with no source has no meaning what-so-ever. MLA can make or break your essay, and it’s always important to include all pieces of it in your essay.
